Argh. A major piece of my childhood in Butler...gone.

I loved their maple rolls, donuts and birthday cakes.

((sigh))

Outstanding Italian bread. Served in some Butler restaurants. Too bad small business can't survive in today's economy.

Charles, had a feeling you would pick up on this quick. They will be missed.

I want a snail and I can't have one again. I know I will miss it. Dose anyone have there recipe for snails?

Cannot understand all the praise for this bakery! When I started a new job I bought a dozen donuts to share with the people I worked with. The donuts were stale and tasteless! I was so embarrassed as everyone was throwing them in the wastecans. NEVER BOUGHT FROM THIS BAKERY AGAIN.

Personally, I am glad they are closing. Wonder why they closed so quietly? They say it's the economy? With so many people rushing in to buy items and lament over the closing, I don't think it's the economy. Wonder if the true story will ever be told?

Does anyone know where I can find a recipe for their Maple Nut Loaf?

I sobered up on Stanley's donuts, coffee and meetings at St. Paul School. A pity another Butler institution bites the dust.

Whats the deal here??? They were always selling everything....No other bakery around.... did they even try to sell this ??? Pretty strange you go to your business one day and you decide your cosing it forever!!More to this than meets the eye!

Other than the giant doughnut it was no great shakes, mediocre at best.

Funny, for being mediocre they managed to fool the public for 45 years....

You just can't compete against the chains. It doesn't even matter if your product is better quality. People are programmed to go to Giant Eagle, Walmart for the birthday cakes even though they don't taste nearly as good as Stanley's.

I have always preferred Lyndora Bakery they have the BEST doughnuts! Went to Stanleys once the doughnuts were stale!

I love the bake shop on Main Street in Saxonburg. Cute place, great service and all homemade from scratch. My family love the cakes esp. the Razzle Dazzle and the Carribean Dream . The nutrolls are my favorite very flakey. Give them a try. They don't sell donuts. But my kids like to go there and pick up a cookie or 2.

The best way to enjoy a Stanley's cake was to take it home, throw away the cake and eat the box.

A diversion from this thread - Does anyone know if the Lyndora Bakery, with their delicious dark rye, is still in business?

Yes the Lyndora bakery is still going, pumpernickel, marble rye and the famous kiffle are on the counter everyday not to mention their doughnuts, cookies and carrot cake
