I remember it as the Y.M.C.A..I spent many a day in this building from the time I was a little boy to young adult.The memories are some of my fondest.I remember being taught to swim by "Pump',playing basketball many times a week,watching Patsy Mustello,Joe Frole,and Frank Puz battling on the hand ball court.I remember "OOGIE PRINGLE" keeping me in line in the rec room.Then as a high school student who can forget "Tumble Inn".I have fond and wonderful memories of that building.
I remember that door and the building, of course, but my history at the Y in Butler goes back to 1963 and I cannot remember ever using that entrance. We always came in the front door, or a door on the opposite side of the building, between the Y and the church on the corner. But for the life of me, I cannot remember ever using the entrance pictured.
I remember going there and attending kindergarten with Mrs Dufford and the big blue shoe. We learned how to tie shoes with the big blue shoe in front of the class. I also learned how to swim with Pump. For graduation of the Swimming lessons one lap of the pool with all the parents watching. Then there was a class that Pump taught that I couldn't get past the first level because I couldn't dive without keeping my legs straight. Excellent times were had at the old YMCA
Went there for kindergarten in 1964/65 and had Mrs. Nicholas as my teacher. Also I remember that they had gym classes taught by the physical director by the name of Sonny.
I also remember the TV room just to the left as you enter the building. The Y was always packed with kids on Saturday mornings.
The new Y now hardly has any kids in the pool, gym, or rec room.
Also, the old "Fallout Shelter" sign from the 1950's is still on the corner of the building.
i remember sneaking in to the cubs with a buddy, rolls of quarters and a gym bag and empty the pop machine that was full of beer...at least we paid for it?
We spent everyday after school and on Saturdays. I was a junior leader and helped with the swimming lessons and gym classes. Oh and Tumble Inn is a very fond memory

I can remember using it in the 1940s. I guess you have got to be an Old-timer.

Aaah! Tumle Inn...the event to attend. lots of memories there.

I can still remember I was lucky to be a member. I can still remember how I learned to play table tennis with Larson and Porter. Dick Billingsley
