No, it was further north on route 8, before Unionville. My question is, when was the photo taken? I haven't been to Butler in 25 years and that scene looked pretty much like that then. Surely time has deteriorated it?
It's been abandoned at least 50 years, although this picture looks like someone 'recycled' the cut stone. When I was way young, we used to drive past it on the way to Rock Falls Park and Armco Park.
Actually the picture is at least 10 years old. The sign and building are gone and the lot is emty except for brush and trees and a little pull-off space.
This is sad to see as my grandfather created and started this drive in. When he passed away the family couldn't come together and agree on who and how it was going to be run so they all agreed to lock the doors and never go back in. My grandfather was ahead of his times.
I am thrilled to see this blog. I worked at the Terrace Drive In when I was a teenager. (I am now 74 years old). What memories I have. Also some old black and white photos of my fellow carhops. Spiro Keffalas was my boss. I have an autographed photo of him.
This is all that is left of the Old Terrace Drive-in, 5 miles north of Butler on Route 8.

As kids growing up and driving passed the picture above we always called it "Chicken in a Casket"

They made the best cherry cokes. I always wondered why the place closed and never reopened. Brad has answered that.
