I always knew this as the Chandler Bakery; remember our neighbor, Jane Chandler and her Irish Setter, Penny. Can remember Jane's father, but not his name. Used to buy potato bread at this location. Kinda sad seeing buildings you grew up with being torn down all over Butler, but that's life, I guess.
I really appreciate the Butler Blog. I have been following it for years but have never commented until now. As a Center Avenue School student I remember Chantler's Bakery well. The aroma of baking bread used to waft over the playground during recess and we used to go after school for the half price sweets that they sold out of a little stand through the garage door. We would eat our goodies while walking up to the Monroe Street Friedman's Grocery Store where my father worked to catch a ride home.On the way we always peeked into the Fire Station hoping to see the firemen slide down the pole. Great memories made more vivid by this excellent blog.

I was there a few times. I grew up in Harrisburg so for various reasons, we were in the area.
I too remember the fire station but not a lot more. Of course, I was young then.
I forgot about that little window in the garage! I was raised on the Southside also and remember that comforting aroma. And the sticky buns!
