On entering you felt as if it was a place where you should be silent. You went up the stairs to the desk where the libriarians sat and felt like you were in a church. Everything was so orderly. I loved it.
As kids we would go to the door on the far right and go to the children's department. In the summer, you could borrow 10 books at a time and keep them until Sept 15th. I fell in love with the William Farley books on the Black Stallion then.
I loved the library too. It was quiet---I loved biographies--their covers were orange--the presidents, historical people, "Swamp Fox", moving around through the years, my first stop would be to get a library card. Things never change.
I can remember the wooden floors and the special smell of the old library. I always found it neat that the librarian's name was Miss Story. I can still see her stamping my books with the date due.

I loved the library. I felt safe there.
