When the mansion was for sale to Ernies Esquire the ground keeper let me go through it. He said the attic was the play room for the kids with train sets etc and was insulated with cork. There was a huge organ that was famous but don't know if it is still there. At one time the carriage house was a bar. I hope it's able to stay as a grand home.
My grandmother, Louise Lowry, was one of several friends of Gretta Phillips, dating back to when they were a small group of seven adventurous young ladies, I forget what they called their little group. Something like, maybe, "The Seven Cousins." I have a photo (somewhere) of all seven of them on a bright sunny day, standing on the tumbled stones of the Old Stone House up on Route 8. Mrs. Phillips was very gracious, and I was seated next to her when the group gathered for my grandmother's birthday party at the Butler Country Club. Afterwords my family was invited to tour the Phillips Mansion, which was quite a treat for a 12-year-old boy.

I remember superb dining there. Real classy.
Those were the days of elegance in Butler.
