Ah, yes, those Butler Yankees of yesteryear.
As a kid, Dad and I would go to the ballpark to
watch the Yankee farm team "play ball"
Maybe even get a hot dog.

"Whitey"Ford was one of the Yankees who labored
with the team prior to his call-up to the majors
as I recall. Seems to me the Butler Yankees were
well supported by the folks in Butler long ago and
far away. Is there a team there now?

The Butler Blue Sox play at the former Pullman Park. It is now called Kelly Automotive Park.

"The BlueSox are proud to play their home games on the same field that has hosted some of the greatest ballplayers of all-time, including Joe DiMaggio, Walter Johnson, Lou Gehrig, and Josh Gibson. Though known as Pullman Park for over 70 years, the ballpark became Kelly Automotive Park when its naming rights were purchased in 2014."

The bar across the street from the baseball park at the corner of Pillow St. and 3rd Ave. was Sam Green’s Bar, owned by my grandfather, Sam Green, until his death in 1952. It was then owned and operated by my parents, Jack and Rita Ziman until his retirement and sale of the building in October 1981.

That bar was once called "Sam Green's" and it was at the root of my parents divorce in 1964. Dad was a welder at Pullman, and he usually stopped there after work and came home too happy too many times. Mom worked at Pullman too, a welder for 25 years until the plant shut down. We started out very poor, but with two incomes from one of the best paying jobs in Butler, we eventually lived a very nice blue collar life. Just about perfect, and we lived right across from the ball park. We would chase foul balls during games - $0.25 per ball.
