Bygone Butler ~

This stately home, known as the Showalter Residence, was located at Fulton and Main Streets, where Nationwide Insurance Company was, and adjacent to Howard Johnson's.

When I drove into Butler from the north this was the first house of note that I saw. I was always impressed and could not understand how it could be demolished so that Nationwide could put their offices there.

Thank goodness for that Nationwide there. They were always on my side. I was hit by a tractor one time in Grove City and they got me my money. I ended up getting over $5,000 dolars but lost it on gambling.

That house was actually built by the one of the Reiber family. They also built the still standing similar stone house on North Main now called the Aubrey Builing.

The portico around the front is a wonderful addition to the house itself.

It was also used as a Jewish Center in the 50's.
