Always highly appreciated.

This store always had beautiful clothing which was out of my price range. It would be nice to see Butler's Main Street look like this again. I see Aland's Toyland to the left and Altmeyer's to the right.
Men's clothing upstairs; women's down. Charlie and Pat McCarren, brothers. I can no longer remember which brother oversaw which line; I think Pat was in charge of the women's department downstairs. This is a memory that is 60+ years old!!!
We grew up in Butler as did our parents. Butler was once a wonderful place to live and work. Heading downtown was a fun place to be. Can't remember all the stores, but I think almost all of them have left Butler or went out of business. McCarren's, The Jay Shop, Troutman's, JC Penney, GC Murphy, Woolworth's, Ralph's Shoes, Altmeyer's, and I think there was a Rexall Drub store near the Diamond Park that used to have different color lights in the fountain. Remember how busy places like Natili's, the Hot Dog Shop, and the Lincoln Bakery always were. Don't remember how many banks, but there were at least three. Sad what has become of Butler's downtown area, but the decline of downtowns are happening everywhere. Will always have the memories, so that's good.
Some other stores on Main Street back in the 1970s or so were: Miller’s Shoes, Jaffe’s, The Hub, Bill’s Bargain Store, Worsley’s Paint and Wallpaper, Bensons, and probably more. It was the place to be back then. Good times!
