  4. So sad that most if not all of the neighborhood stores are gone. On the West End were Doria's and Jack McKean's on Mercer Street and Phil Smith's on Penn Street.
What neighborhood stores do you remember?

There was Kemper's on elm and pearl,Ann Lowther's on chestnut and federal. Wow there really was a ton of them! I used to take my wagon and collect returnable pop bottles and take them to Lowther's to have some cash. Of course I'd get the cash and give it right back to Mrs Lowther for some of her sweeter wares.

My grandfather owned The Main Grill on Main St. in Lyndora. He sold it in 1948 and retired, but after two years he built and opened Andy's Market on Mercer St, next door to Jack McCains. Later Grandpa sold his store to Jack and retired for the second time. The last time I was in Butler, the yellow brick building that was Andy's Market was the local Red Cross office.
