Those were the glory years of BHS football. My next door neighbor here in SC and Ron played pro ball together.

I have heard bad news from sources this week that Rich is in very critical condition with Leukemia. I wish this were not true but I am afraid that it is.

I saddened to learn of the passing of Rich Saul this morning. The multitude of tributes and good wishes posted on the Caring Bridge website is testiment to a life well lived and his impact on such a diverse array of people. His character in life as a community advocate for children and family man matched his exploits on the gridiron and will be a lasting legacy. Indeed, he made all Butlerites proud. Rest in peace.

It is a sad time in Butler because so many of us remember Rich Saul and his fantastic talent as a high school athlete. It was always a real treat to watch him on the field.

Rich and his brother Ron were Bigger than Life, and always someone to look up to. Rich will be missed greatly. They were both good friends! Bill Hilliard

Rich now joins his big brother Bill that was in my class of '58. An amazing family of athletes, and downright nice people. God bless - Steve Gray

I can remember one year when I was in 9th or 10th Grade and the one Saul was injured and worked at the Butler Intermediate High School in charge of the bad kids. Laura Southwick rounded a corner and ran into Mr. Saul and broke her collar bone. He was a big, strong guy and the bad kids toed the line for him. I can remember a bad kid that gave him lip. Mr. Saul picked him up with one hand and pinned him against the wall. The kid became very contrite!!

I thought you might be interested in this story about Rich Saul who graduated from Butler High School in 1966. From reading the tributes to him on this website, you can tell what an impact he has had on so many lives. He and his twin brother, Ron, were on the football team in high school. They both played in the NFL. I thought you might want to include something about him on the Butler Blog.

Did you know my pap? His name is Jeffry Troutman. He played football for BHS and graduated in 1960. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. He passed away in 1972 at the age of 31. I am the daughter of his oldest daughter Tracy.
Thank you
