According to Wikipedia Santorum was ''...born in Winchester, Virginia. Santorum was raised in Berkeley County, West Virginia and Butler County, Pennsylvania. During his childhood, Santorum's parents worked at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Butler with the family living at the VA hospital post. His father became licensed as a clinical psychologist in August 1974. While living in Butler, Santorum attended schools in the Butler Area School District. While attending Butler Senior High school, Santorum earned the nickname "Rooster". Reportedly, he "always had a few errant hairs on the back of his head that refused to stay down", and he was "dogged and determined like a rooster and never backed down".

Santorum graduated from Carmel High School in Mundelein, Illinois, in 1976,where his father transferred within the VA hospital system. He lists his residency as Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, and maintains a home in Virginia for his work in Washington, D.C.''

Butler Junior High then Butler Senior High till his senior year when his family moved away to Illinois. They lived in a small brick house behind the hospital. He was in Junior Achievement at the High school in 1975 had his picture with others in the Butler Eagle. He played little league baseball for the Meridian Dodgers & swam at the VA medical center where his father worked. Bob Orsborn mentioned in the previous article that Santorum praised Butler as the "the greatest place in the world to grow up, for so many reasons".

I'm curious to know if he mentioned how difficult it must have been for him to have his father work for that overreaching, socialised goverment health care outfit known as the VA...and live in government subsidised housing on the VA premises? Was this the real reason he had hairs on his head that perpetually stood up giving him the knickname "Rooster"? Just asking.

As I remember, he was named Rooster because he was an ego driven showboat. I played basketball with him on many occasions and he always had the "cool" sweatband and knee pads and always tried to act like "Mr. Cool" on the basketball court. I will say though that he was not mean nor was he a dirty player.

Wasn't "a dirty player." Now that's the strongest credential I've heard yet for his presidential bid. Perhaps that can superceed his stunning google reference. So what do you think has the greatest odds? - Santorum becoming President or the Golden Tornadoes winning the state football championship. I have my money on BHS.

According to the television news his 2010 tax return has been released. He reportedly made around $900,000 in 2010 mainly in earned income. We did not hear the reporter say what he did to earn that much money.

We wish Rick well, but when he says he paid a higher tax on his earned income versus Mr. Romney's taxes on investment income he sounds as if he is complaining. If we made $900,000 in a year, we'd be happy to pay the taxes and live off the leftovers.

As a past US Senator did he have any input into the tax structure of our country? Don't know the answer to that, but we know Mr. Romney did not.

Hope this does not sound critical, it really isn't meant to be that. We really do wish him well.

BTW: His mother also worked for the VA Medical Center in Butler. She was the head of nursing service so they brought in a pretty penny in income plus had free housing on the grounds.
