During W.W. II Hutchinson's Dry Cleaner used horse and buggy to deliver our dry-cleaned clothes to our doorsteps.

Man I never knew about the horses etc. When I was small we had a panel van stop I think about once a week or so with the dry cleaning.

Isn't Hutchinson's over the Island area of town?

It has been a long time, where was Hutchinson's?

Hutchinson's is still where it always has been,on 331 Negley Avenue in what is known as the "Island" section of town. My father (Thomas Beechey) grew up there as a boy,his mother (Anna Beechey) was the sister of the owner (Gordon Hutchinson) and had an apartment on the second floor, which is all boarded up now. There were railroad tracks behind the cleaning establishment and I can still remember,as a child, climbing up on top of the window sill in Grandma's apartment to watch the trains pass by.

Another "Island" business now closed was Butler Packing. The Daum family made hot dogs, lunch meat, hot sdausage and a lot more that was hard to beat.

I grew up with several of the Daum boys. Used to visit the plant on occasion and I have seen how "hot dogs" are made. Ha! Ha! They were the supplier of dogs to the Hot Dog shop and we had them every Thursday as served by the ladies of the Center Township Consolidated PTA. Greatest hot dogs I ever ate. I'm not sure why they went out of business but suspect the heirs had other business interests.

Laura Lee - you are most likely family. Stop by the plant and speak to my brother Steve or his wife Lorraine. We have all of those details. I am Jim, Jr but live in Washington, DC.
