My father used some kind of pump to keep the water out of our basement so the furnace could run. Once the system was in place, the creek was filled in. We had a basement full of water and the water level was 2 feet deep in the first floor of our house. My parents took as much furniture as possible to the second floor of our house. Cunningham St was flooded.
