YMCA ~ Tumble Inn

Photo: DeWayne Johnston
The former YMCA now CUBS Hall was the site of Friday night "Tumble Inn" dances in the gym from the 50's to 60's +. Not sure when they ended. As a teenager, it was "Be there or be square."

I think that "Tumble Inn" moved with the Y when the new Y was built. Somewhat later the name change to "Purple Underground."

I used to go swimming there every Wednesday as a part of Saint Andrews Church, next door, kids fellowship time. Looking at it now I can't believe there is a pool in there.

I used to go every Friday night to the dances. Sometimes I would dance but most of the time we would just walk the circle around the dancers checking everybody out. On one Friday night the place seemed empty. The "D"jay asked what was going on. That's when we heard that the "Purple Under" was the place to be. We left the old "Y" that night and walked down to the new "Y", never looked backed.
