Stepp Inn ~

Was located on Route 8 south at the turnoff to the airport.
They served good meals.

They served the best spaghetti platters. We used to take our family of 9 and eat there frequently. The staff knew us by name and knew what we would order. They also had great salads and dressings. We were so upset when they closed we stopped eating spaghetti for a month.

One time during a bad snowstorm they gave us free spaghetti because they felt so bad we had to drive home! I'll never forget that meal, and we got free rolls, which were simply delicious.

My wife and I were enjoying one of our delicious spaghetti dinners one night when these bunch of kids in some volkswagen bus came in. They were so pleasant and just so fun to be around. They told some funny stories that I'll never forget!

Two eggs, bacon, toast, coffee 1.06. Started working in bakerstown in 1972 stopped every morning, in and out never late for work. Nice to start the day with a warm meal.

OMG! I totally remember those volkswagen guys stopping in there! They always made me laugh. I wish they all lived in Butler again.

They just don't make places like this anymore. Gas and a hot meal. Great toilets - really nice. Sadly missed.

If the Vw bus is who I think it is, they all did well in life. One of them moved up in the red cross and is a great guy.

I heard the kid who owned the VW bus really liked disco music and opened a disco bar in Yough.

Wasted many an afternoon in the pool room in the early 60's while
a commuter at Slippery Rock College.

Don't think I was ever inside, but in 1965, my father met his ride to Virginia there every Sunday afternoon. He had worked for the federal government in Pittsburgh, but was then transferred down to DC so he came home on weekends until the entire family moved down after I got out of the 6th grade in 1966. Wasn't there a place that sold cheese pretty close to the Stepp Inn, or am I thinking of someplace else?

Lol, this is where my dad and mom met! My Dad was home on leave from the Navy during WWII and my mom was a waitress there.

Are you thinking of Northstar Cheese that was further down route 8 right before you got to Bakerstown? I believe the owners of Northstar lived just across route 8 from Steppland on East Airport road in the historic log home right on the bad bend.

Thanks Gary, think you're probably right. Don't recall the name, but sure remember the samples that I scarfed up while my mother was ordering. Loved the Swiss! Ah, memories.

When did the Stepp Inn close? I remember seeing it on my many trips to Butler in the 80s.
