That old South Main Street brick hill was often a bear to get up
(and down) in the winter.

I remember this view from walking to the Junior High School in the 70s. We could have taken the bus but it was more fun (and quicker)to walk.

I also remember how excited I was the first time I rode my bike from the bottom of the hill to Broses without stopping to walk. I'm still in good shape but if I tried that now my heart would explode!

Mom and Dad bought the last house on the west side
of south main, 1308 was the address. It was really a beautiful lot, quiet with lots of trees. I really enjoyed staying there on visits over the years. It was wonderful home for them to spend their final years. I remember going into Brose,s for the awesome deli meats ,great steaks and chops.

Fond memories of that hill and street. Went to the South Hills playground so often during the 1950's to play basketball or volleyball.

I used to sled ride down that hill when it was too slippery to consider having cars on it and Morton Avenue was the only way down. Great memories. Thanks

I walked that hill more times than I care to remember. I lived on Muntz Ave, I also spent alot of time at Broses. My Father's store is still on Rt8. Pete Belfers Home Improvements. Although he has been gone for some time. Becky Belfer

That was an incredible street. I remember my grandmother would not go up or down that street in a car in any kind of weather. I often wondered how people made it down that street in winter without sliding all the way to Wayne Street.

Every New Year's Day for the past 12 years my friends and I run South Main Hill then run over and do North Main Hill, and then run over and go up McKinley Avenue, and then finish by running over to the top of North Monroe Street.
Not bad for guys in their 40's and early 50's.
