Big banks,GM,Chrysler, every other Tom,Dick and Harry is getting a big slice of our tax money, seems to me Robert's is more important to a lot of folks than the rich frauds and thieves.Obama, put Robert's on your list.

I wonder what the next Main Street store to close will be...

I miss Woolworth's
Especially the lunch counter.
Also the parakeets and goldfish at the back of the store.
Lets not forget to visit the lower sales floor as well.

Yes this is sad. I remember several bake shops in Butler. Kandy, Mom and I walked up Jefferson Street from West End---there was a bake shop at Pillow/Cunningham (the best meringes that my mother would fill with fresh strawberries), further up on Jefferson Street was a bake shop that we visited often (they made chocolate roll cakes that had a marshmallow like filling---can't find anything like it). Then on Main Street was one that made cupcakes with filling. Days gone by---I am in Atlanta now--there are no shops like that.

I also miss Woolworth's....and Troutmans, G.C.Murphy,Rexall Drug and all those other shops. Guess it's my age......

Remember Main Street at Christmas with lights strung across the street and the store doors open so you could smell the cashews roasted in Murphy's 5/10---I remember buying "Blue Waltz" perfume in a pretty heart shaped bottle for 13 cents---I am dating myself--this was the 50's. Everyone went uptown then and slopped along in our boots. Lunch counters did a booming busy. But the Hot Dog was my favorite. Judy Kinzer, Donna Ramsey and I visited it often.

Those bananna split balloons at the lunch counter in Woolworths....popping one to how many cents off the price....halcyon days...for sure.

does any one know if the stanley bakery is still there, loved their cakes, even had family bring them up to chicago when they came for a vist.

yep, Stanley's is still alive and well. Same location, right beside Doughboy Park at Mercer St. Great creme filled donuts!

Chalk up another to the redevelopment authority. Their negotiated deal with Rite Aid never happened, but yet produced the closing of Robert's Bakery.

I miss the Saxonburg Bakery's thumb-print cookies. Even before they closed, when I visited Butler I'd run down to Saxonburg and get some cookies.

I was in shock when the Saxonburg Friedman's burned down too. Dad e-mailed me it was burning and I was watching it on-line from DC. At least they rebuilt it, and it probably needed it.

My parents and grandparents grew up in Butler. Every time we would visit we stopped by Roberts bakery for my mom's favorite cookies. I am sad that I can't buy them for her now to help comfort her through recent difficult times. I had such great memories of eating their cookies with my grandparents.

Someone posted a comment blaming the Redevelopment Authority for the closing of Robert's Bakery. They may have played a role, however, we heard the Barkus family did not want to keep the business operating. If so, who could blame them? Butler's Main Street does not have enough stores of interest to bring customers downtown. Don't think anyone believes the hoopla surrounding the development PLANS that are obviously never going to happen. No bakery will ever beat the former Lincoln Bakery. They were the best in Butler.

Whatever happened to the Business incubator scam a rama at the corner of Main and Cunningham? Is it true some made out and some got played?
