Melanie's leap is currently tied for the ninth-best jump in the nation as well as a personal-best and a Bucknell record. The leap improves her previous best by over five inches and is an NCAA provisional mark.

Melanie was in my homeroom throughout high school. Its a great enjoyment for me to see other classmates becoming successful in their endeavors.

The Bucknell women's track and field team concluded its final day of competition at the 2006 outdoor NCAA East Regionals on Saturday, held at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. Junior Melanie Buczko represented the Orange and Blue in the pole vault.

Melanie battled in the pole vault and recorded a mark of 12 feet, 6 inches, for 12th place. She tried to clear 13 and was successful on her second attempt, but unfortunately her pole fell back and knocked down the bar. Melania was unable to clear the height on her third and final attempt.

Melanie just sent me an e-mail saying:

"I just graduated from Bucknell and am done with track
and field :( I would have liked to end my career a little better, but I had a pretty good run while it lasted."

It sure was a good run, Melanie, and you did well, and you gave all of us in Butler reason to hold our heads a little bit higher.

Melanie also held the BHS record for the 100 meter hurdles. That record was broken last weekend (April 16 2011) by Lexis Frost. Congratulations to both young women.
